Hard Jerkbaits
Hard jerkbaits are lures that are slender and run from 4-5 inches in length. Examples of some hard jerkbaits are the Rattlin Rogue, Bomber long A and the Rapala Husky Jerk. The Rattlin Rogue and Bomber Long A float when not retrieved while the Husky Jerk suspends. These baits are a must in fishing for Florida bass.
Rapala Husky Jerk- Suspends when Retrieved My favorite colors are gold black back or silver black back. These lures are best used around hydrilla or Kissimmee grass lines. They can be worked in a variety of ways but I like the jerk-pause-jerk-pause... retrieve. this style retrieve seems to get the most hits either when you 1st pause it or when you 1st start to jerk it. If hydrilla is almost topped out, I like to use the Bomber or Rogue. They don't dive as deep, and float back up during the pause. These lures really provoke the instinctive strikes from the bass. If the hydrilla is substantially submerged, let's say 3-4 foot down, I prefer a suspending model like the Husky Jerk. Use the same style retrieve, occasionally twitching the bait during the pause cycle. For Kissimmee grass lines either style will work. Work parallel but also hit the pockets and dents along the weedline.
