Pitching

Pitching is similar to flippin except you don't pull line out at the beginning and you have to be adept at it to be able to catch Florida bass consistently. You simply grab the lure in one hand down by the reel then apply thumb pressure, drop the rod tip below waist level then lift it back up to a 60 degree angle while releasing the thumb pressure. Let the lure pull the line off the spool and try to maintain a low trajectory so your entry into the water is quiet. When the lure 1st enters the water, apply thumb pressure so you won't backlash then release the thumb and let some line out so the lure falls vertically.

Pitching is used around docks, in all styles of weedlines/beds and around visible timber. It is a quiet and accurate presentation and outdistances flippin. I prefer pitching to flippin as I can stay further from the fish. You can pitch with a 6'6" rod or even your favorite flippin stick.
