Lake Manatee April 18th 2010 Bass Tournament

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Anna and I fished the 2nd to last tourney of the season with Mr. B’s tournament trail on Lake Manatee. We started on the north side of the lake near the state park and Anna caught one small keeper and one short. We ventured out to the 10-15 foot range where we had caught larger ones in the past but no baitfish were seen on the depthfinder nor did we get any bites on our Carolina rigs.

We ventured down to the buoys near the dam and I landed a small keeper on a DT14 rapala on a 7′ hump near the river channel. I tossed a marker out as soon as the fish was in the boat. I cranked for about another 10 minutes with no success so I elected to fish the Carolina rig. The bite was on but no large fish with only a 3 pounder to cap our limit. At weigh in it took 15 pounds plus to win, a couple of 13 pound weigh ins, a 11 pound and a few others knocked us down to 6th or 7th in the tournament results.

I think we still are in either 3rd or 4th for the year but it’s going to take a heavy stringer at Jigg’s and a small stringer for those in front of us to even have a chance to get the Anglers of the Year award. Jeff Columbus leads the pack, Jamie S in 2nd and either us or one other team in 3rd.

Until next tourney, Tight Lines

Lifes Challenges

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

The last 3 weeks have been a flurry of ups and downs for me. My mother passed away from a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease in mid March God Bless her soul. My daughter had a baby, Evelyn Marie and now I’m a Grandpa then finally my son lost his child because of his fiancee having preeclampsia.

In between all that was going on Anna and I did manage to fish Mr. B’s tournament on Shell Creek but only managed one keeper. A beautiful place to fish but my mind was on other things.

Just remember to appreciate what you have and that life is short so enjoy it while you can. Hopefully next month will be some better times. Until then Tight lines.
